Beyond Pesticides, Hawaii Program
Hawai’i's Beyond Pesticides Program focuses on decreasing toxic pesticide use on our islands, using a strategic mix of policy work, public pressure, education, and support of organic farmers and landscapers.
We are working with Maui, Kaua'i and Hawai'i County governments to reduce pesticide use in public spaces, and with local organic farmers to get them the support they need to succeed and expand.
Hawai'i's food security and economic vulnerabilities that have been exposed due to COVID19 make this work more important than ever. We helped launch the Maui Hub, a new non-profit farm to consumer sales platform, built as a COVID 19 crisis response to support our local farmers, that will also serve as a permanent part of Maui's local food infrastructure. With all of the aid and interest in expanding agriculture in Hawai'i, we must remain vigilant. NOW IS THE TIME for real, collaborative systems change, responsible increase in food production, & active support of farmers who are growing solutions to climate change, not increasing chemical intensive mono crop farms.
