Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE) is a forum for women who are working to bring about a sustainable Hawaii powered by clean energy. WiRE was founded in 2010 and has grown to over 150 annual members, 200 women participating in events, and chapters on two islands (Oahu and Maui). Each month, experts from the energy industry address a different topic – ranging from new projects breaking ground to policy, workforce development, and utility regulation. Our women-only events provide a space where women can share, support, and collaborate with each other while learning about renewable energy and offering ideas to promote sustainability and clean energy in Hawaii.

With support from the Frost Family Foundation, WiRE is able to offer professional development scholarships to support its members. Our WiRE members can build their own customized professional development plans to serve their unique career goals and objectives. Forbes indicates that women are more risk averse than men in a professional setting. Men apply for jobs when they are 60% qualified, while women only apply if they believe they are 100% qualified. To close this gap, the WiRE Professional and Technical Development Scholarships aim to empower women to pursue growth opportunities that will build skills in negotiation, leadership, and other career-boosting expertise.
