Honolulu Civil Beat is a local, nonprofit news organization dedicated to cultivating an informed body of citizens, all striving to make Hawaii a better place to live. We achieve this through in-depth, investigative and explanatory coverage of the issues that impact our islands.

A three-year grant from the Frost Family Foundation is helping our newsroom put an intense spotlight on climate change – how it’s affecting Hawaii now and what the future may look like for all of us in these islands.

Our multimedia reporting explores how rising seas affect coastal communities and what steps are being taken to address it, and the threats climate change poses to our watersheds, native species and overall economy. We are seeking answers to questions such as: Are we prepared for more frequent tropical storms and wildfires? How will changes in rainfall patterns affect our farms and daily lives? And what are policymakers and elected officials doing about climate change — or why aren’t they taking action?
